PSAT

PSAT is known as “Preliminary SAT” or sometime it is also refereed as “Palm Springs Aerial Tramway “. PSat is a merit Scholarship Qualifying Test and it is multiple-choice standardized test administered by the College Board and National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC). PSAT is composed of three sections mathametics, Critical reading and writing. For passing PSAT students have to attempt PSAT in 2 hours and 10 minutes. Each section scored 20 to 80 points, and all three sections maximum score of 240 points. Psat is parallel to SAT which is also graded between 200 to 800. PSAT as it is prelmaniry test so it doesn’t include high-level mathematics. As, it is a prelimanry test so it includes basic knowledge of math’s, reading and wring skills. It also give chance to enter National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) scholarship programs and if student is capable he will be awarded with NMSC scholarship. Psat includes basics so there is no need to work very hard as it includes basic mathematics, writing skills which you have developed thorugh out your life in and out of school. Psat scores give three kind of scoring first is 20 to 80 , second scroing is: 48 in verbal , 49 in math, and 49 in writing skills and third scoring is 45 in verbal, 46 in mathematics and 46 in writng skills. For high PSAT score students have to work hard and pay little more attention towards their PSAT exam. PSAT results are announced according to dates mentioned by College Board genrally it would be after three weeks of test placement.

PSAT test scores decide whether students are capable of scholarship or not. Now, the question arises what is a good PSAT score? According to one report the scores that can be considered good scores are as follows: Verbal: 550-650, Math: 510-610, Writing: 590-730. Average PSAT scores are 48 in verbal, 49 in math, and 49 in writing skills. 2006 PSAT scores are very much saticfactory but its seems that studnets who are apperaing in 2007 PSAT exam need to do little bit more hard work than 2006 students did. Good PSAT scores are: Verbal: 550-650, Math: 510-610, Writing: 590-730. The advantages of PSAT test are: you can enter in the competition of scholarship, preparing for PSAT you will become familiar with question that will come in SAT, once you are a part of PSAT team you will be connected to other colleges and this will surely increase your knowledge. The PSAT test is consists of: two 25 minute sections for testing critical reading skills, two 25 minute sections for testing mathematical skills, one 30 minute section for testing writing skills. There are two types of question involved in mathematics section: 30 multiple choice question, 10 grid-in questions. PSAT test results are based on student effort in form of answers he marked in his PSAT answer sheet.

Perfect PSAT scoring is 2400, not less than 2400. 2007 PSAT scores depend on following criteria described by College Board: The PSAT/NMSQT score reports provide three scores of 20-to-80 scale: first for verbal skills, second for math skills, and third for writing skills. The average verbal, math, and writing skills score are 49. The Selection Index is the sum of the three scores (V + M + W). It ranges from 60 to 240. The average Selection Index for juniors is 147. There is nothing like PSAT conversion table because PSAT scores are not exactly equal to SAT scores. For e.g., PSAT Verbal score 63 is equal to verbal score of 630 of SAT. However, we cannot convert PSAT scores to exact SAT scores. College Board PSAT announced result about 3 weeks after placement of PSAT test.
